Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

Ian I would be interested to know how you would deal with the kind of situation Rupe is talking about i.e rope against the limb and all your weight on the rope, I set the very same scenario and nearly ruptured something trying to get over it.

Use your lanyard, take your weight off your main line and rollover as before in Ddrt.

Rupe, the RW is all about using less energy.

If you are worried about not being able to consume your usual pie and booze intake, I've got a couple of spare 20kg weight discs you could sling off your harness, and maybe an old bow-saw kicking round at the back of the workshop....:001_tongue:

Been using the wrench at work for a while now, and whilst I appreciate it's merits, I don't think it's applicable to every job. I'm normally a lockjack man, and I love the self tending and minute position altering ability of the lj, but it doesn't seem possible to replicate this with the wrench.

Don't get me wrong,i am loving the wrench, but I can't see it becoming my only climbing system

In rock climbing, it's usual to use the free leg to push away from the rock face to get your ascender over a ledge. Same would be true here wouldn't it? Push away on trunk while shoving ascender past the limb. Unless you're further out and can't reach the trunk!

Seroiusly though, its been years since I was tired using Ddrt, so even if the RW is betterer its still solving a problem that didnt exist. Changing from prussik to VT was more efficient and resulted in less stomach muscle action, dont want to do even less!

In fact, I might go to a prussik system for a while and see how I get on!
