Being new to all this, i haven't obviously had the experience of big heights, but so far at college and whilst out practicing, i dont seem to have any problems with being up trees. A few peopele at college do seem to freeze abit, when getting up higher, and branch walking, cross overs etc, but so far i feel happy and confident, so how's it been for all you experienced guys, does it get to a point when you realise just how high you are and the nerves kick in, or just it just progress as you go and you stay confident as you get higher????

Just noticed you're from the North-East too. You at Kirkley Hall? I started an ND at Askham-Bryan (York) last year, but from the experience I've had I reckon I might have got more out of Kirkley.

as long as your tied into something of safe size hieght shouldnt matter. i'd rather be 100 foot up tied into a 4 inch stem than 30 foot up tied into a 2 inch stem.

I think that a bit of fear can be a healthy thing, over confidence can lead to accidents, however a scare a day makes you feel ALIVE. :w00t:There's nothing like a bit of Elvis leg shake when your at 60ft cutting a 30ft section of tree so the crane can lift it away over a 132kv substation. :scared1: it's brilliant

I find it funny with the nerves, It varies. Some days can be up any height without a care in the world (almost), but some days find myself definitely more nervous. Nothing related to height, conditions or a particular job being more dangerous, just something mental on a particular day I guess. I can end up with the climbing style of a koala bear.

I love it! Spent this week deadwooding a bunch of 90ft Turkeys :scared1:PA160012.JPG.2eaa9e849a616fe3ff614119438b004d.JPG

Once your past the fear factor which usually occurs on the way up, its just like working in any tree because you're concentrating on the work. Must take time out to enjoy the view though!

The main thing is confidence in your gear, once you realize that your rope and crabs are pretty much bomb prof, then any fear would be fairly irrational, IMO.
