Does anyone else find it extremley hard to climb a leylandii hedge to reduce its height? Got to be one of the hardest trees to climb in my eyes:blushing:

depends on the hedge but normally if they are close i just walk in them or on top of them (but i have got a long reach and long gangly legs:lol:)

easiest way into a hedge is a ladder against the outside edge. Some are easy to climb up through though....others can be a nightmare.

if your taking a good bit off i climb up through, if its just a little trim ladders are good. Long reach cutters help a lot!

I think iv lost my temper climbing up inside a big leylandii hedge to top out more than any other tree (apart from hawthorns!) everything gets stuck on the branches, poked in the eye by dead branches, but the feeling when you finally poke your head out the top and feel free again makes it all worth it:thumbup1:

O leylandii that horrid stuff will it's only horried when I am asked to reduce it I love the stuff when I am asked to remove it I really can have my revenge with the stuff .

 

I usually always climb through it and walk through them on the top but I all ways take a very good look at them before doing it . If I think the result is not going to be good then I decline the job

 

If it's just. Trim then long reach hedge trimmer and ladders .

There actually the easiest to climb and i always feel safe in them. As the other guys have said nice slender ladders gets you right up in there without damaging the tree.

Love them especially the really dry ones where all the bits go down your back then arse crack and end up in your boots .

Don't forget the one where the previous person has shoved all the arisings down the middle.

 

As Steve said ladder up, cut level and jump in .
