stihl's online sales policy

I think this policy is just crazy!

I recently bought a Stihl KM130r which I picked up when down in Devon rather than my local dealer in Durham. All the dealers in the north east had the same price, but I got it £80 cheaper down south.

I think the local dealers are running a cartel and Stihl approve of there methods.

No other business can get away with price fixing, so its time something was done about it.

well imo the easiest way to get everybody to support their local dealer is to ensure all the dealers prices are roughly even, not sure wether this is feasable?

a while ago i bought a tanaka machine and searched high and low on the web for the best price?? all the same so i bought i a couple of miles down the road at a tiny dealer.

at least husky havent followed suit!

How can the price be fixed if you were able to buy it £80 cheaper?

Unfortunately, you're wrong.

That was how the old policy was supposed to work.

The new policy does not allow for sending any stihl products, full stop!

I'm just going by how some dealers are currently stating the policy online. For me I am happy to have a dealer that realises there will be no adverse comeback for them or Stihl by selling me an e-clip for a Ms230. It took me 1 minute to install including taking clutch cover on and off. Nobody has died or lost any limbs (yet|) as a result.

I have bought a fair bit through Jonesie over the past couple of years mainly due to the competitive prices, quick delivery and the fact I can do it whilst supping a pint in my dressing gown. Not to mention they are good to deal with over the phone.

Alas they now cannot send me a gallon of Stihl 2 stroke oil and some Stihl files due to the online policy- how can this need a handover? Tad patronising to say the least.

Brand new saw then yes, a handover knowing it has been put together, checked over etc but for consumables its a bit much. My local dealer is the only one for miles and is useless on stock and prices.

Before if you were a 'known customer' then its fine. I hate to say it but I got my last batch of files and oil off ebay where they seem to ignore Stihls policy.

Sorry to jonesie but Stihl need to make it so so its not one rule for one and one for the other. Rant over.
