Anybody got a log deck?

I botched one together with scaffolding and a few rollers, as already said, makes things a LOT easier and faster and also takes most of the lifting out of the job.

Rollers are well worth it, they make pulling the log onto the processor effortless. I picked up a few from the local scrapman.

If you're looking for rollers and struggling to find any most boat chandlers carry them for boat trailers; these should do the job if you can't find purpose built ones. It should be obvious but they're made for rolling boats on and off trailers, so that means that they should be able to bear a considerable load (lightest yatchs weigh around 3/4 ton), but arn't necessarliy designed for constant use in clarty conditions.

You really can't do without a log deck particularly if you are processing alone. I got my manual one from Fuelwood and it does the loading for the ram processor and a stand for oversized logs that I chainsaw into rings to process later on a screw splitter.

An earlier respondent said they can get 4 cubes of wood onto the rack. I find anymore than 3m3 and it's like playing kerplunk just waiting to see which will stay and which will follow gravity.

This is what i use as a log deck, i used to have the frame on a 7.5 ton scrap lorry with the crane on a old volvo tractor unit, then a manual roller on the back, i now have this artic trailer cut down with drawbar for tractor, with the crane mounted on the front run by pto, and a removable and height adjustable hyraulic infeed table i made on the back that plus into a 1 x 42, it holds enough wood to do about 12 cube if straight 10foot stuff piled up. got some twweks to do and getting some removable pins made so can also use it to collect timber

Mikey,

the 3 Roller setup looks brilliant and I'm hoping to source components myself for such a setup.

Did you manage to purchase the motors/rollers and as complete units or source /make up components?

I think the 3 motors will be considerably less hassle than a chain drive setup?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Eddie.
