got a 04 and 53 vauxhall combi vans at work, pretty good vans they spend quite a bit of time off road. would say economical as well.

i've got an 05 belingo. its simple to keep in good order, runs like new still with 160000KM on the clock, 1.9D basic engine (no turbo or anything fancy) eco on fuel and pulls the TW125 like its not there... all my gear fits in it easy. i'd recommend it.

ive got an 57 plate astra and its brilliant, fit loads of gear in the back of it, it can take a supriseing amount of weight too. 67MPG! ive got the 1.7CDTI engine with the 6 geared box, I would highly recomend it to anyway looking for a small van

In my old business for 23 years I ran small Diesel vans ( fleet of 8 or 9 usually) for around 300,000 miles in about 5 years usually

 

Ford Connects were our favourites followed by Vauxhall Combos. Only ever had 1 VW Caddy thank god, that spent most of its life broken down. I was pleased when the insurers scrapped it after a prang and only 180,000. Fuel wise there was not a lot to choose between the Ford and the Vauxhall, both were returning about 50-52 mpg even at 300,000. The VW never came close, best it ever did was 46mpg, average was nearer 43. VW promised me 60mpg then blamed my drivers when they consumption was so bad.

and good ground clearance just watch the sump though jus waiting to get a guard fitted to mine
