The Range Rover sport is much lighter.

a mate has the terrano van-short wheel base, few months back, done a job with him, my 046+25inch bar will only just fit in at an angle in the back, not alot of room for anything other than basic kit (046, 026, 020 climbing bag, lowering rope, fuel cans jackets, lids), bounced around more than j-lo on acid when towing the chipper, pulls well, cruises comfortably though.

keep with the green oval, disco commercial:) or standard disco with ply-lined rear.

doesnt have award winning towing or offroad performance for no reason!

I have had ex utilities heavy duty 300tdi 110's and they returned upto 28 on a run. My 300 tdi 110 tipper retuned 30 empty.....

 

Our 90 td5 returns us 35mpg, its 198bhp and has a disco tranfer box which helps....

It only ever did 25mpg before I had it tweaked up.

 

It only does shortish journeys so never gets a good 'run'.

 

Pulls a heavy trailer and trees over well, which is why I have it, its just another tool for work.

 

What else 4x4 is there, that you can put over a tonne in the back and pull another 3.5 at the same time?

 

I'd be too worried about scratching and bending some fancy jap stuff that had to go back after so many months or miles - they wouldn't have it back!

 

However, I wouldn't entertain owning a LR if I wasn't in this job.

Do you need a BIG 4X4, our 1.8 petrol Mitzy Pinin will tow the TW180 fine, 30-35mpg. Room for kit if you don't have pasengers.. High and low ratio's and center dif lock. Great fun to drive.

Caution on Nissan Terranos or Ford Mavericks

 

Especially the older ones

 

The oldman had a Ford Maverick and was a nice vehicle to drive and ride in but then he had a problem with the power steering, He was quoted £375 for a power steering pump and was told that if the pump has failed it was likely to bugger up the rest of the system!! He sold it .

 

Now is running a Mitsubishi!

 

I think if you want a happy medium between work horse and a nice drive a disco would be fine, i have owned 2 discos a 200TDi and a 300 TDI I found the 200 slightly better on fuel but less power and noisyer and the 300 more power but about 5-10 MPG less on fuel.

 

I am currently running a Shogun, 2.8 Auto diesel

about 15-20 mpg but much more comfy than a disco and Quicker much quicker.
