My opinion, based on no scientific evidence whatsover, is that your pruning will make no difference to the chances of that tree being blown over.

If the tree has grown in the open like that then it's obviously quite happy to be that shape.

 

Quite right Peter, but the customer will be pleased and will sleep at night knowing the chances of the weight pulling his tree over have been reduced from 1,000,000/1 to 1,000,001/1 and the tree will remain where it is.

The customer will be delighted. I'm always glad to lighten someones wallet and give them some imaginary peace of mind.
