Well it seems the people of Irton could not find one.

 

Of cause they could, thats why a TPO was put on the tree at the request of the residents.

 

I would bet they were told by the LA that the cost of mitigation to retain the tree was far greater than the cost of removal, so they could not justify it.

 

The muppets then go on to spend over £200K, to get their way!!!

North Yorkshire County Council and an Arb Association Registered Consultant, they both think this tree needs to be removed urgently due to it's potential to push the wall and its roots ingressing into to a sewer drain. NYCC have spent £250,000 in legal fees to get this tree felled.

 

Interested to know how many people here (firewood suppliers not included ) think this tree needs to be removed urgently?

The locals who used every legal means to block this are equally as responsible for the waste of public money.

The only people who benefited from this were the legal teams from both sides.

200 grand plants a lot of trees.

Ps woodpicker I think you are missing the point, the health of the tree was not in doubt. The location and ongoing damage to services that is the problem.

not missing the point @ all old boy ,the sewers can be repaired & the wall can rebuilt with out harming the tree ,the pipes have probaly been brokern for donkeys yrs ,now the owner wants to develop they become an issue ???,didnt seen to bother them wen they bought the house

yeah right, there are tens of thousands of mature trees like this growing next to walls in cities, towns and villages all over the UK, you think we should remove them all?

Scarborough Borough put a TPO on this tree after local concern was voiced about the needless loss of such an important landmark within the village, yet North Yorkshire County Council decided to fight that decision........why????

 

Why are North Yorkshire County Council so determined to have this tree removed? so much so that they spend £250,000 on legal fees fighting to have it felled? is there some kind of personal vendetta going on?

Its a beautiful tree, surrounded by hideous houses and a crap stone wall. It is also now worth an enourmous sum of money by dint of the fact that NYCC have behaved in such an inexcusable way.

In the pic above, the tree is the ONLY thing worth keeping. IMO they should fell all those monstrous chavvy buildings with their awful roof tiles and hideous PVC.

Well we are in Fungus's words "starting to milk the cow dry" as for the felling of the tree we have different opinions and thats all very healthy.

Your point about the dispute between the Borough and County Council is interesting.

Could it be that the houses can only be built if this tree is felled to provide an entrance or is there a feud between the householder and a prominent member of the Borough Council? I think there is more to this story than is being reported in the press.

I think it will come down anyway.

If the tree is retained or not there is a definate posibility someone is going to turn up to work and given the dubious pleasure of felling it.Does this council use there own arb team or outside contractors? With such strong feeling about it would you want to turn up in liveried trucks and get in the local and national rags?
