Is red diesel being phased out in jan 2012?

I was chatting to a guy today and he said to me "what do you think about red diesel being phased out in jan 2012?"

 

I said "you're joking!"

 

But apparently he was deadly serious. I've had a quick search but can't find anything relevant so can anyone shed any light on this? Or am I being wound up?

He said there was an article in Farmers Weekly about it but as I don't subscribe I can't verify.

red derv, as we know it is being phased out, due to excess something,,,, sulpher maybe, there is an alternative which i think is similar money to red, i dont think the farm industry plant operators, etc could continue if they had to pay roadside prices, its bad enough atm,

My understanding is the current red is being phased out due to its high Sulpher content. The new red is white with red dye in so it contains a proportion of biodiesel. As a result the diesel will 'go off' if stored too long.

This has already happened, red being ULS for a wee while now. Thatś what Watson Petroleum told me recently anyway...

it gets stolen from us long before it can ever go off!!!!!!!!!

 

i think in fairness it as a fairly long 'shelf life' same as before

 

any fuel sat around for a period of time will deteriote, moisture an injection systems dont make a good mix!!!!!!

The diesel we use in our cars and the new red have a shelf life of 20 days. thats why we dont use it in emergency diesel generators.
