Gardenkit. Could it have been the depth guides a bit low? As once sharpened it would have brought the cutter down to the correct hight.

Edit. Sorry should have said brought the cutter down so it was lower and brings it down to the depth gauge.

I don't think so Richard, the chain really was brand new, and the sharpen I gave it was only a light one which would not have lowered the cutter much.

It was weird though, I should have photo'd the chips. I tried it in different woods to, just to see. All had very long chips/shavings.

That is a strange one then. I will be copying jonsie on this one and logging this find for a future reference.

I had this on a chain I sharpened myself, but only for a few cuts till it blunted a bit.

It was taking shavings out like you would expect off a plane just narrow in width.

I thought it was the angle I had sharpened the cutter, a little to deep so the tooth was pulling its self into the wood and shaving instead of taking a chip out.

Hi Figgy, those shavings sound just like these were. The problem here was it would only cut for a few seconds before jamming up completely so he could not work it long enough to blunt it!

It cut very well for those few seconds though.
