The purge shows it is probably the 50cc version as do the grey top cover clips.

First thing to do is to check the piston out through the exhaust port and go from there.

No problem on the advice!!

The piston is scored. The cylinder gasket is knackered. That bad I couldn’t pressure test the saw. Despite a new gasket and diaphragm the carb looses pressure very slowly and it’s bubbling from the bottom where the new gasket is. Hoping when it’s full of fuel the leak will stop. The exhaust has no gasket on it. It looks like it was never cleaned. Compacted duct and oil everywhere. Full rebuild from the crank bearings up.

Are you talking about the lobes being out of kilter? I have seen a 346 with a twisted crank. It was very visible on the clutch side when you rotated the engine.

As ADW on big end play. When the big end fails, it tends to throw white metal bits all over the place messing up the bore, piston and ports.

Had a well used McCulloch Dakota 442 on the bench, non-runner. Dismantled and cleaned carb and fitted a carb kit, bit of a fiddle as they have a cable instead of linkage but it went back together and fired up third pull. It runs nice enough for a dog but I put fuel in it and left it on the bench, went back next morning to a stink of fuel and a half empty saw. The tank breather is in the middle of the fuel cap (stupid idea) and it's failed so a new cap is on way from eBay. Owner is on holiday for another week so it should be ready for when he gets back.
