I have used Flex-Hones in cast iron cylinders, they are the world leaders in bog brush with abrasive balls on the end.

 

One flex-hone supplier says this:

 

"What if my cylinder is Nikasil Coated?

Nikasil coated cylinders are more delicate than the iron bores typically used with Flex-Hones®. Nikasil is an electroplated oleophilic nickel matrix silicon carbide coating that allows the use of aluminum cylinder walls without a steel sleeve. This coating reduces friction and wear. Great advantages come with the use of Nikasil on coated aluminum blocks or jugs, one of them is the increased heat removal from the piston, pin and ring assemblies. The other advantage is the tighter tolerances can be achieved. Most Nikasil coatings are 0.0003" to 0.0008". To deglaze and freshen up the bore walls you must use an aluminum oxide material based hone. This softer material works well with the hard walls. Use the hone like described above with the exception of much less rotations. Run the hone for 10-12 rotations in the bore and inspect. If the overall cylinder looks touched then you are done and remove the tool."

 

This is the type you need, size to suit each cylinder, this will do 40mm.

Not too expensive, just the postage and import duty.

 

Last one I bought came from the states, far too expensive if you buy in the UK.

Picked up a couple of BG85 blowers over the weekend, thinking about porting one if I get the chance:thumbup:

I had one I could not sort, so sent it back to the Stihl main dealer I bought it from.

They fitted new pot and piston, but when it came back it was still useless.

So it went back again. they said "its perfect"

So the customer tried it and then brought it back "its useless" he said.

So its now with Stihl themselves.

I wonder what it will be like when it comes back?

Too much going on.

 

Three 026 saws.

 

Ride on is in.

 

And a couple of mounfield mowers in.

 

Also a salvage pump off the lifeboat. It's our main and a spare is on there, they couldn't be bothered to find the issue so I said I will look. They wanted a new one.

 

Its got a loss of compression and after a look the valves where sticking open. It's a diesel single pot yanmar engine.

 

So re grinding the valves and replacing the crank seals.

Just replaced a barrel and piston on my old 357xp, feels like I'm getting great compression, but gonna take it to the shop for a proper check before I try start her
