Yet another MS260 with carb problems.

 

And my Volvo which lost it's ECU memory after I disconnected the battery which I had completely forgotten about (must have lost my own ECU settings!). Stupid Swedish engineering; if only Stihl made estate cars!

Is the Volvo like my Citroen where you have to go through a procedure called BSI reset when you disconnect the battery. This involves lifting bonnet, opening the driver's window, disconnect battery for 3 minutes switch on sidelights through open window, insert key and switch on ignition, bury dead cat at crossroads at midnight and hold down remote lock button for 10 seconds. If you get it wrong all kinds of weird things happen like the wipers will operate themselves and lights come on when you switch ignition off. I thought the damn thing was possessed

You can't really hone nicasil plated bores as the coating is too thin, best to just clean any aluminium piston residue off and rub them with some wet and dry with WD40 liberally applied.

 

OEM bores are chrome plated but still cannot be honed

Do you hone the cylinder or just wet and dry paper on them?

 

Depends on how bad they are but tend to do both but only lightly with the hone on its lightest setting:thumbup:

You can but you take it very easy - much easier that on a cast iron liner - the ports are a bit of a pain but you adjust it so you just skim the surface, use lots of oil and do it for a short time - it will help with bedding in the new piston as it breaks the glaze.

 

I never used to do this but have found it does give a good finish but the art is doing it ever so lightly!

What honing tool do you lot use. I have a couple but for Diesel engines. They are far too big for a chainsaw pot?
