I have never actually managed to do it under false pretence because they never answer  and yes answering the phone is a sign of a professional business.

I wouldn't agree with this especially being that a great deal of the time people may be using machinery that means they can't answer the phone.

Returning answerphone messages promptly, being polite, being knowledgeable, selling dry logs not wet... these are more indications of professionalism.

I use noisy machinery but make sure that I feel my phones vibration and constantly check it just in case I dont. I know what I would think if I phoned a supplier of this type and they did not answer

FWIW, the type of customer who rings around is usually the same one who wants the cheapest deal. NOT my type of customer, but then again I only "play" with firewood and is approx 7 or 8% of my annual turnover.

It does however have to pay its way, hence I will never be the cheapest, and never have a massive turn over from it, but what I do sell is high quality and would say year on year I keep 95% of my old customers. These customers are the ones who do my advertising and give word of mouth to new customers, and they are the type who will leave a message on the ans phone and wait for me to call them back.

Not everyones cup of tea, but works well for me.

HI 18 stoner yes mate thats the best way of advertising word of mouth mate well done to you mate it all about the high quality of your logs and not price jon:thumbup:
