First attempt with the Alaskan

Purchased an Alaskan with a 20 inch chain a couple of weeks ago through Rob D who was very helpful. Was on my CS30/31 at the time so I have only just got round to using it.

I ran it with my 361 which did a pretty good job but it wasn't exactly fast...

Started out just doing a small length of Sweet Chestnut for a bit of practise and then went on to a larger piece of Ash. I really enjoyed seeing all the grain patterns inside the wood and was happy with the results.

Will add some pictures shortly

James

Nice James and thanks for taking the time to put some pics up... hmmm may even pinch a couple as it illustrates very well how a longer Alaskan will fit on a smaller saw.

You should be pretty fast through timber that wide even with a smaller saw like the MS361. Can you time a cut next time to get a ft/min figure?

I reckon you could be onto something with the long ladder - if you were doing a fair bit of smaller diameter stuff in one place, I wonder if it's worth having the ladder set up on some sort of stands so the saw is suspended from it rather than the ladder sat on the log and then just roll logs under for the first cut?

I might be over complicating things but that's just me

I got the 30 inch Alaskan because I'm thinking of buying a bigger saw. Only problem I had with it was that my dad tightened the U clamp up to much on the depth adjuster and cracked the post clamp thing.

You might be onto something with the ladder idea though. Have any of you guys done it? Could do with some pictures of one or something
