Also tractor dilemmas....

I'm going to need one ..reckon about 40HP for messing about on my new farm...and loadsa tools: plough, disc harrow, splitter, loader etc etc..

Punting about so far best 'value' would be the landlegend but I really can't find anything about them...certainly nothing bad on searches ...

I sat in most things around that size at SALTEX and I must admit that when it came to stuff with a cab the TYM433.. well heck that was comfy..I could have happily had an afternoon doze in that one.. which is pretty impressive for my size and weight.. trouble is that adds 10K to the budget compared to the LL <sigh>

Anyone got definite no-no's???

Definite No - no's would be anything Chinese or any of the less known brands that could disappear from the UK at any given time. They also tend to depreciate like a stone.

Kubota, Kioti (underrated IMO), Iseki, Tym, Massey, New Holland, John Deere as well as a few others are all worth a good look.

If you have plenty of room around the place, I wouldnt buy a compact, but a s/h 'normal' size tractor like a massey 362 etc.

I asked a similar question ages ago, i got told its best to buy an old full size tractor than a compact. I still have nt bought one due to other needs first, but i want one to cover a chipper, saw, plough and grass cutting, i havent got any storage but will be looking at the older tractors first, even if i end up with a grey fergy at £1000, still good buys.

And that old grey Fergy will still hold it's value!
