What constitutes alcoholism?

Several people I know (all women) have said that my drinking habits are close to alcoholism!

So here they are: When I get back from work I look forward to a can of beer or a glass of wine. If I have beer then I'll have two cans or with wine about two, maybe three small glasses. I relax with it, cook my tea and then take the dog out for some training.

I don't drink in the day but because I 'look forward' to my evening drink then I'm borderline alcoholic! Am I? Are they right?

mate if it wasnt for work and tree work,,Id get **** faced every night,,cause it feels good,,,,but ,,,,reality kicks in,,and I just have a few every night depending how tough a day ive had,,in the winter rarely, and in fact one month never,,,people have been doing it for yrs,,your fine,,,

To the best of my knowledge. Alcohlism is an addiction or dependency of regular intake of alcohol. It could by 10ml daily, or lots only on a weekend. It is when it affects you mood/behaviour. when your deprived of it. You do not have to drink excessively or get drunk. Personally I would take heed and prove to yourself and your friends. By abstaining a couple of months. or another time period see what difference it makes. Its nice not to be beaten and prove your you dont need it. I know loads of people who deny but never prove it. You will feel good if you can prove it, but it is similar to giving up nicotine for some.

If I felt the need to prove wrong any false allegation that came my way I'd feel pretty pathetic to be honest.

If someone wants to accuse me of something good luck to them, I ain't going to waste my time proving to others what I now is true.

But then people opinions of me have never really been top of my priority list.

Graham, you do not sound like you are an alcholic to me, I have know many and they could drink you under the table and still manage to come up for more. Moderation seems to be the key with Alcohol consumption. I may have a better idea about this than most since I do not drink alcohol.
