Been doing paper work this morn when a bloke rings up saying he has a old rotten tree on fire, spark from his fire had set it alight could i help . Only around the corner , so stopped work and went to have a look see . And this is what i saw ,a 65/70 foot crack willow that had been dead for a few years ,he had cut a row of 20 foot lyandi down and had fire 4 feet from the stem on the hottest day of the year 03/08 the tree had started to burn in various places he had not tried to extuinguish them the high ones ok but the stump ! the tree cant be climbed nor can a lift get close . so they need to be winched over very carfully very. 2 men 1/2 day and a lot of skill i says £200

he laughs and says he is skint . 4 nice cars and a caravan in the drive . i walk away wishing him lots of luck.

:001_smile: had something similar once. Guy phones and tells me a tree is on fire and it's leaning over his house. So on a sunday afternoon we get there to find he'd tried to smoke some bees out of a cavity and the whole of the trunk is glowing well!

We had to climb and dismantle carefully but he did pay up:thumbup1:

Burnt tree is awful on the chainsaw.. by the way. If he starts haggling then double it... in fact double it any way.. it's going to be a really bad job, as they say price it like you don't want it, and this one you don't want, probably.

Defo what he said. Put a lengthy disclaimer in your quote, guaranteeing nothing except getting the tree down.

Cos of the risk involved I'd be pricing it on the heavy side of heavy then double it and get written acceptance from him.
