Last week I splashed out (ha!) £70 for 2 ex-Austrian army waterproof yet breathable 'Goretex' jackets from the internet. They arrived promptly and looked the business.

Today Stevo and I got absolutely, utterly soaked right through to our knacker-sacks. Yes, it's been wet all day, but I was soaked after the first shower.

Time for the Cut and Climb I think.

£150 now seems a bargain to stay dry all winter.

I've got a cut and climb smock as well it is superb, and actually waterproof!!

Very good service and quick delivery from Clark's.

Well it was lashing down this morning, first time since I got a Stien Evo2 jacket a couple of months ago.

Apparently it uses different, tougher, more waterproof material than the original and the zips are improved.

The cut seems really good for wearing with a harness and the material certainly feels quite tough.

The fleece collar feels nice and although it was pouring down, it wasn't cold but when I took the jacket off early afternoon, my t-shirt was only damp from sweat.

For the price I wouldn't expect this jacket to stand up to the harshest weather for years on end and I don't think Stien could pretend otherwise.

I will say though that for the money I'd rate this as top quality. Definitely recommendable IMO. :thumbup1::001_smile:

I have to say being a still serving soldier I have put my goretex through some sh1t and it has always done the job, even after being in the pouring wet up the side of a mountain for days on end. I have done 10 years and had 2 in that time. For what civies pay they are worth it when they are so durable! The newer ones are better as they have pockets where the old ones didnt.
