I thought there was a swear filter on this forum.

I have a two stage Ingersoll Rand 8cfm compressor in my garage which I paid £50 for 15 years ago, I've not checked the oil since I bought it.

Bomb proof Rupe

Oh dear, my ingersoll has just told me it's fed up of my lack of attention and has decided to die.

I'm going to have to get another comp, does anyone have experience of Hydrovane, I know they are expensive but what is maintenance like on them, any pitfalls??

I got "given" a 150L 3hp cosmo compressor. WHen I say given, I mean my uncle said have it for 200 quid or come and do 200 quids worth of work for him.

I had it a few weeks then took it back, heap of crap kept blowing the trip, whilst back at his house I did some work and charged him for it!

I'm still in need of a compressor, I'm just going to go for a small 50L with the best motor I can afford.

3hp is only about 10amp Rupe, perhaps the trip needed uprating to a 13amp?

i have had a machine mart one for about 10 years now, been great only use it for blowing out filters, blowing up tyres etc, get the biggest tank possible if your going to run tools or you will run out of air quick. my tank is 35lt and it will only just run an air ratchet ok.

Got my eyes on a Hydrovane on fleabay at the moment. A new pump for mine is about £400 and that's not an ingersoll.

I should be able to pick up a decent Hydrovane for about £600 and a rebuilt for £950 ......ouch! That'll teach me to check oil levels

You will need to check the oil, drain the tank and replace the oil separator occasionally (service part)

Other than that a hydrovane or screw type compressor is superior to a reciprocating in every respect (IMO)
