If they refuse to pay, go down the legal route straight away. Yes they have a £50k Discovery 4 but chances are its on finance and I would point out to them disadvantages of having a CCJ registered against them

The problem with taking extreme measures is its likely to land you in court not them. Its a shame some customers dont realise the skills and risk and cost of investment involved with the work of removing large trees. Additionally they dont understand that arb arisings are not the same as nice straight 8" cordwood or that the majority of cost in logs is in the labour of processing.

This just my view but what could have caused part of your problem is the log adverts on your truck. This may have alerted them to the firewood having some value and ten minutes later on the internet and its all worth tens of thousands of pounds. I have wondered recently what would happen to the electronics in a D4 if it got a blast of 240vac across the battery.

 

I also thought this- you need to have magnetic signs to cover when doing arb work- In fact it screams at you' these guys are making money out of my tree'

I once threatened a customer with court action over a bill for £35, he laughed in my face. He wasn't laughing when he got a letter to tell him the date of the said action. I got a cheque the very next day. If they don't pay, tell them want you intend to do and do it, fairly sure you will be paid pretty quick.

I have just started reading through this thread and was about to say exactly the same thing. As soon as I saw the Firewood advert on the truck I thought big mistake.
