Hamadryads diary- a new chapter

Recommended Posts

Despite the absolute drenching at work today I went for a bimble in whippendell woods on the way home, trying to re establish my photo album. I had a few others throughout the day, one in particular I've been watching for a few months. First up then this perenniporia on robinia. The tree is outside a busy job centre in Chesham, the business owner has been informed today, but will follow up in a month or so if nothings been done.

a new species for me, Leccinum albostipitatum a mycorhyzal bolete in association here with grey poplar

I hate to spoil the fun, but the dark brown to blackish dots on the stipe are characteristic for L. rufum (= L. aurantiacum s.s.), the stipe of L. albostipitatum (= white dotted) looks like this.

I am going to see a doctor about a problem I seem to have, i keep climbing trees for no other reason than to shoot brackets, even ones ive shot before and have acceptable images of! like these hispidus brackets:lol:

On a serious note though it does illustrate just how frequent this fungus is, and that this is also a reflection of just how low the risk is, because i know HUNDREDS of trees colonised and fruiting roadside, just like this one.

This Fungus has a bad rep, but i dont know how to quantify it yet.
