Catch 22 gaining experience but no-one will employ you!

A year ago I passed my cs30/31 and cs38 and was advised to get more experience before taking cs39. Which is difficult as no-one will employ you (even to drag brash)without experience and when I mention my age apparently at 44 i'm unemployable.I don't receive benefits and have been living on my savings since being made redundant in april 2010, I didn't get a redundancy payment due to contractual litigation. My previous job was as a class 1 hgv driver which I vowed not to go back to as I worked for ten years at night ,had no contact with anyone outside the depot enviroment, and had no life basically what-so-ever,I still don't really have much of a life as I have no mates but working for free in the local wood which i''m partially managing, makes me feel alive when driving never has. I've undertaken small gardening, hedgcutting jobs, but have made less than £1000 in the last 8 months, my money is virtually all gone. Kinda losing the will to live!

Solo, post your positives, ie you have vast driving experience, to HGV standard, you are qualified to use a saw, you are mature and you are determined to succeed. Your age is immaterial, 44 is neither young or old . It is tough out there for many, even experienced fully ticketed climbers, let alone someone new to the trade. I'd be getting out and about, get on Vistaprint and cop some free business cards made and push for general hedging and gardening, mix it with a bit of maybe agency driving to keep an income coming in while you get going. try and get to the AA Show for a bit of networking too. Dont wait for the work to come to you! Good luck :thumbup1:

Aeril rescue, use a saw on the ground and can drive a proper truck with chipper! It's just what I've been looking for! You might never be a hot shot climber but you could be a very useful groundie.

try ringing around the local guys

might be worth trying to either get a days trial at either expenses or for nowt just so they can get to meet you and see how personalities get on.

My favourite workers are the ones I get on with rather than the ones that have massess of experiences and qualifications.

Just a thought

Its all about opening doors

Your HGV ticket is the key here I think. The market is flooded with climbers, but not so many lads can drive the big stuff.

Good luck with it mate, and as Andy says, you could do a bit of agency driving to keep you afloat (just not at night eh?:001_tongue:).

If you can't find local work you have to Travel to get it.There are more than a few Companies in the Larger Towns that have big Trucks.
