Be a nice change to get my "Pruning Spikes" out again.I know they are my pruning spikes as they have short gaffs.

Practically usless for crown lifts as the bark is thicker and hard to get a purchase on lower down the Trunk. So I use my felling Spikes for crown lifts,as I am a practical man and can't justify having three sets of Spikes.:001_smile:

I find LONG gaffs far better for pruning as the sharp pointy tip makes hardly a mark.

I also find caulked boots make limbwalking easier:001_smile:

Nice one!!

I'll add "pruning spikes" to my APF shopping list:001_cool:

Mike do you use your felling spikes to get up the tree (spiking up the back of the tree,of cause) and change into you pruning spikes once up the tree??

Actually no.Usually I attach a ladder to the tree with self taping "Teng Screws".This advanced method ensures I ascend the tree in absolute safety, screwing one stage of the ladder to the tree at a time.

Only when I am out of ladder reach,or sick of cutting branches off that are in my way,do I then don my "Pruning Spikes" and set about doing some Propper Pruning.
