Brushcutter ticket

Recommended Posts

I'm doing a diploma course at the moment, and have been offered the opportunity to do the NPTC Brushcutter assessment. It will cost me £120, and I'm not sure whether it's worth the investment.

My interests are forestry and woodland management rather than arb, and I'm planning to do my CS30/31 later this year. Is there any real benefit in having brushcutter too?

What do you reckon? Must have? Useful? Expensive piece of paper?

Theres a lot of expensive paper out there

None of us have brushcutter tickets- I don't know if thats wrong but there you are.

Some firms will want them especially if Safe and Healthy contracts.

Personally I think the hedgecutter is potentially more dangerous.

And the circular saw- don't even go there:001_rolleyes:

I was put through a brush cutter course when working as a volunteer for RSPB - they wont allow any one their reserves to use one unless trained. This mainly involved using blades for rough vegetation (brambles etc) and we didn't spend any time with nylon cord heads on the machines.

If you're not to used to using then I would say it was worth while - all depends on whether you think you are going to be doing any genuine brush cutting. Probably quite useful to have fron an insurance point of view.

I have it and it's been useful when applying for jobs as people can 'see' you have the basic knowledge to opperate the thing safely.

I also have clearing saw and with some training and know how it's a really powerful tool. Well worth having that ticket. Not widely used over hear but for a bit of thinning they're ace.
