Hello,

I recall being caught out badly by an old biddy using the 'can you just' method of extortion...

A half day turned into a full day and so did her bill.

I bligthly thought she understood that extra trees ment extra work = extra money.

Never ever say yes unless you give a price or get an under standing.

Last 'just can you' I did for a 3 course lunch with wine so some times it can pay.

I had a can you just the other day, so I asked did she have cake? The answer was no so I said can you just put one in the oven!! Low and behold she did!! So I pruned a few more branches!!!! It's to be expected some times, recommendations are the best form of business advertising, that extra mile sometimes pays.

"Can you just....." for the last few jobs has been remove piles of garden waste. One of them was "this pile here" which then turned into (on following day) a huge but loose pile of elder by and on our cordwood pile. Todays "Can you just....." was pile of beech leaves and twigs at far end of a garden. It was after they made me a roll and about 20000 cups of tea though so was happy to oblige.

ave had "do you think you'll get it all split today?" after we'd quoted for just going to ring up and stack. Not a chance. There was in excess of a million tonnes ringed up.

In the old old days I used to say 'yes' thinking it was good for business but now in wiser times I see that it de values what you do.

My motto never make it easy for the customer. One 'can you just' leads to another. Say 'no not really' then an hour later relent and say 'well ok just this once but any more add on jobs will cost more'.

The customer then really appreciates the freebie rather then looking for additional 'can you justs'
