How does he use the capstain ?

 

He will just put a rap of the rope round and when he pulls the tail tight it will winch.

 

It will be OK for very light pulls, but if something went wrong it would be real easy to roll the mog:scared1:

He uses it for lowering, lifting and winching. How could it roll huck? if anything were to go wrong he just has to let go of the tail and all is released, there is also a pulley on the other side which allows for the rope to lead forwards!!

 

(it's not his primary lowering device, just there if he needs it!)

yeah, it's mounted just behind the capstan in the pic, I realised it was out of view after replying and got an edit in :001_smile:

 

It is a stroke of genius after working with it, the control the groundsman has is great.

I think he said it's been welded, I'll get some finer details next time I see him
