splitting ash

does anybody know what a fair rate/price would be for splitting ash logs by axe only about 2-3 hrs work at most i would think any ideas appreciated cheers

i paid a lad £40 for splitting ash with an axe once, approx 2hrs and he split 4cube. what a beast. couldn't manage a third hour tho:thumbup:

My brother was charging £120 a day for splitting logs when he was 14, that was 12 years ago. He got loads of work doing it on jobs where I had left logs and other tree surgeons were recommending him to customers as well. Don't sell yourself too cheap.

Ask yourself can you fill the rest of that day with another job to get a days wage if not then you should come to your answer.

How much better are splitting axes compared to a normal tree murdering axe? I've never used one. All I know is my spear n jackson normal axe either stops dead, or dives into the wood, and will not budge.

A nice maul will give you that nice satisfying "clopp" as it slides through ash.

if you have no work on a given day and you feel like earning a few extra bonus quid...no harm done.

 

If you want a proper wage charge them your standard hourly rate etc on the basis that they want your labour - they pay!!
