Lanyard problem

I use 8 meters of 10mm static rope, the non working tail gets stuffed into an oversized chalk bag on my harness. not perfect but a damn site better than lotsa rope tangling up everywhere....

That's longer than my climbing line these days!

 

Then you'll never get your line caught up with branches again. Alex laver showed me one back in 2000 when they had to be imported because there wasn't anything like them in the uk. Still going strong today.

Mines Edelrid I think? the more supple the better really as when you pull down behind the crab/pulley you avoid pulling slack out of the bag.

Only Edelrid 10mm rope I can find is dynamic. Is this ok as a lanyard? What friction cord/device do you use with it? Very tempted to upgrade my gear. Tinker with it to eliminate all those annoying niggles.

 

Usually just daisy chain the unused lanyard rope but find the extra weight kept close to the pulley sometimes pulls all the slack through. Really annoying when hanging off a branch one-handed when you discover what has happened .

yehr ive got the sherill one with the peice of elastic around the top like alex. keeps it from around your feet and stop you stessing.

How often do you use anywhere near 3 metres of your lanyard??

 

Do you always clip the crab back on to the d to stop it trailing??

 

Have you tried daisy chaining and clip the chain onto a carry tool??

I use a 3m wirecore instead, that is less annoying than a rope as its stiffness helps keep it from tangling. Plus the snaphook gets caught a lot less than a krab and knot.
