SIA- the tree pulling test/theory

...which is all about the cohesive strength of soil.....which is all about the moisture content....

 

VTA and SIA will tell you some of the story but perhaps we would all learn more if we knew more about the soil.

 

The info is out there, just has to be read, dry clay strong shear, gravel low shear. VTA tells me more about a tree because I have gone to great lengths to perfect its art, dedicate to anything and youll master it.:001_cool:

So Oliver Cromwell was obviously an early practitioner of the pulling test as can be witnessed here when he was 'etched' whilst evaluating the Boscobel Oak.

 

Though his early attempts may have been slightly floored, the lack of access to elastometer and inclinometers (which wouldn't have been invented for another 300 years or so) meant that the chaps he got to cut in to the trunk to assess the wood fibres under load may have actually done more harm than good.

 

I guess these ground breaking tree assessments had to start somewhere
