Cheap means of aerating and inoculating soil include swinging a pick or iron pry bar into the soil and bending it in 4 directions, followed by a blasting with the garden hose.

Don't be like that: I've been extolling the virtues of this process to anyone who'll listen. I now have a queue of three trees awaiting the treatment so can do without egg on my face thank you very much:001_tongue:

Further I've also converted the owner of a large landscaped garden to chipping instead of burning; he now has several heaps of chip awaiting winter dispersal. So a big big smiley after that comment please.

A (noticeable) increase in epicormic activity throughout the canopy and on the trunk and both saprophytic and mycorrhizal fungi within the mulch bed.

David, when you say micorrhizal are you saying youve located nodes? or fruiting bodies? was I mistaken in thinking Pear is endo or maybe ectendro (undetermined )
