I think so, I use to use one alot, and found them to be quite quick to use, and the logs are already in your hand to chuck into an awaiting trailer. You can also re-split easily for small firewood, If I ever do firewood on any scale I would get one as step 1

Ok as a starter splitter but I changed mine for a ram type splitter.

I found with the cone type splitter that morally, I couldn't leave anyone splitting logs for fear of coming back and finding them wrapped around it.

I also found myself fighting with the odd log that decided to spin, you can't let go of it or you get your finger squished.

In comparison, the new HSE compliant ram type splitters are totally safe and now I can leave my groundy splitting logs without any worries.

I think they are the last word in log splitting. Fast, split anything, and soo easy. no waiting for return strokes or slow downward strokes etc etc. Unbeatable IMO.

used to use one a lot, great tool, on the back of a ford 6600, , but did stall the tractor with a nasty old bit of ash once tho, took some getting off the cone i can tell you

If anyone had an accident using one how could you explain you felt it was safe. I would imagine they are safer and more efficent when new. More likely to grab when worn. Not used one dont fancy using one.
