so why did we pay an extra 5 grand to have 50 k boxes and air brakes if we cant use it.... theres not a tractor manufactured now that does under 40k anyway..

In the ag trade too and i can tell you that they are legal in other countrys thats why there built ! why pay the extra well i guess its to get between jobs/fields /yard combine etc faster !

you can still buy most machines speced with 30 kph boxes !

use on motoryways as said befor is all down to construction and use regulations and lighting regs !

i know lots of 40 and 50 k front axle suspended trators used on the road ! how long before an accident happens and the investigation proves someone was going faster than 20mph/30kph in a machine which is lawfully only alowed to do that speed but has the potential for more?? (i have been as guilty of this in the past)

all food for thought etc !

in germany alot of farmers haul there own grain etc to the mills and stores with twin trailers etc and they are all 50 kph etc ! thats why we can buy them here the market is there weather the laws in one country suite the machine offered is neither here or there as an operator or employer its oyur duty to follow the rules and regs or you are liable !

as said before can of worms ! also if the agricultrual tractor is primarly used for haulage og goods then your into white diesel terotry again !

this is all a bit heavy for a friday night !

I certainly do not regret buying my mog and it has proved to be a verry usefull tool , as far as im aware im pretty much the only tree surgeon running a mog in cornwall , it has alowed me to carry out off road work that no other tree surgeon's down here could look at doing , it has also shown just how usefull it is with some of our clients that we sub contract too as it can get pretty much anywhere and with a 10" chipper we can get through large volumes of timber and brash in a short space of time .

it does have one main draw back and thats that is dont fit everywhere !!!

Sorry if this is a daft question but on the red/white diesel argement, what tax class do you have on your Mogs if you're running white? Can they still be an agricultural vehicle or do you ned to reg it as a truck and have a lorry allowance on your driving license (for those of you or your staff that are too young to drive 7.5t)?

I had a sit down and chat with a mate of mine who is a trafic cop. I really appreciated his input as he was saying that although it used to be a not so well known thing they are starting to grasp it now and (at least in his case) knew full well that I couldn't run a Mog as ag use on red if I was carrying chip from a domestic job.

If you use a Mog as an implement carrier with a chipper, log splitter or post rammer etc to do ag/forestry/horticultural work then red is fine. Start using it as a chip truck though, even with the chipper fitted, and it gets very complicated apart from in very few special cases.
