Topping- for Tree Health or Money?

The topping discussion often comes up, but where do you draw the line?

Some of us will top if its the only way to save a tree, that is if you know the customer will get someone else to do it, or fell it. Some refuse point blank to do it.

So can we afford not to do as the customer asks, even in a declining market?

Any views would be great, but pictures of works you have done would be interesting.

Come on be honest, even if its work you are not proud of:scared1:

In the past I've had to do a 50% "reduction" on a Acer saccharum, with a full tpo, on the instruction of the council, while working for someone else. Didnt feel it was the right thing at the time, but it was very close to a house, and it was that or fell. Sorry no pics at the time, but I may go back and photo it now, to see how it is. :scared1:

If the client is a moron and wants me to top their tree, I'll do it but I'll never say that the tree is better for me having done it - in fact I'll tell them that they are actually damaging the tree severely.

No disagreement here. I inform the client of the consequences to the best of my ability, and then go to work
