i would like and apline tractor and forwarder, but its a lot of money to splash out, but the impliments are a lot cheaper/more obtainable

it just depends what your work is, i have specific sites that a quad is a lot more advantageous than an apline tractor on, due to the lighter weight, i think its horses for courses with this one, and neither one is 100% the answer to everything.

Agreed Charlie, I dont intend to have finance to the limit, and all the stresses that go with it. I would love to have many things, from quads, thru to a Valmet and forwarder, the best chippers, a decent 4WD the list is endless. I have put the fun back into my work these days, after subbing to companies over the years, who have had Mogs, trucks, 4WDs, Big and small grinders, everything. I look now at the bosses of those companies, the stress they put themselves thru, the premature greying hair, and I'm happy to use my quad. They can all have the big business, and the big money they deserve, I'll just make a gadget to make MY life more interesting, and easier.

nice work! going to look at a honda foreman on friday its a 450, winch on it, so we'll have to see what condition its in, also looking at a piece of kit i could modify as a LGP forwarder to use with it

im impressed with your tree planting/log lifter (any plans to put wider tyres on it)

The stubs will accept the small trailer wheels, the flotation wheels that I have on my other trailer as well as the tractor style wheels on it at the mo. All interchangeable. The wheels on it in the pics are to keep the crane level with the towhitch. When test lifting the Duggie fir, I was basically checking that it didnt raise the rear of the quad from the ground, and watching for weaknesses in the system. I wanted to see if it required drop legs to add stability. One other concern when lifting the butt, was that it may pop the hitch from the tow-ball, but no probs there either.

Ok, I have made a few alterations to my little crane now, had the chassis welded and a brace put in, added a boat winch and grapple. The reason I'd left it as a "nuts and bolts" set-up was basically I didnt foresee the amount of use it would get, and how many different applications it would be used for. Now I know what I'm doing with it, strength is key!! just needs a slap of paint as soon as the weather clears out. Also put a tow hitch on the rear brace so I can pull another trailer in the woods on the back.
