i have just got a wetterlings splitting maul and it is great and apparently they are now made by gransfor bruks but half the price

I use a little Bahco hand axe for all my green woodwork. Holds a very good edge and cost £12.

Not quite... the only people GBA make for other than themselves is Ray Mears.

 

Wetterlings makea reasonable axe. But its not comparable to Cegga,GBA, Snow & Nealley.

 

I own a GBA Forest axe, a Snow & Nealley Hudson bay and a Wetterlings Swedish Forest Axe.

 

Out of the three the Snow & Nealley is the best. However they are impossible to get hold of in this country, IME, and I only managed to get mine via a Canadian friend. Second is the GBA, an a good length behind is Wetterlings.

 

If I could afford it, a Cegga is the way forward

Gransfors bruks are hand made in sweden , they make lots of different types of axe including a small splitting axe ! But I'm using the small forest axe ( bushcraft axe ) for splitting kindling and I think it's the Mutts nuts

No mate, One of the guys i sub to only has Stihls and you know ill never use a Stihl, So out come the axes

always use a billhook think its far more acurate to use and easier if your using lots in one time.

Estwing with a leather handle are axe porn.... had one 6 years, got one for dad and both brothers'-in-law! lovely weight like their hammers, hardly ever needs sharpening and the leather cord is good on the hands... think screwfix and most toolbank builders' merchants stock them for approx 40 nicker...
