Anyone else notice the way they got to the honey buzard nest or the lack of ppe. Amateurs.

And on "A Place in the Sun" the other day they visited a chainsaw carver who thought a hard hat was sufficient ppe, obviously in case he fell over! No visor, ear defenders, gloves, chainsaw trousers or boots!!

When we were in Majorca this year for our family holiday we saw a block replastering his balcony base on a table. He was stood on a couple of beer crates and wearing sandals. No hard hat, no goggles, no steel toe cap boots. Nothing. What scared us even more was they didnt stop and let people cross at zebra crossings. A couple of weeks before we arrived a family of 4 were wiped out by a taxi just up the road from our hotel. Was very scary trying to cross what was effectively a dual carriageway on nothing more than a zebra crossing.

yes i thought it was a bit shabby and the more these so called protectorites (rspb) handle these wild chicks for monitoring purposes the less wild they become !! leave well alone and let nature take its course

Just this last couple of weeks a tree surgeon has been “spare time” fitting his own wood burner with back boiler, what an amateur, all he knew about plumbing is that pipes are made of copper, he has resorted to repeatedly ringing a plumber mate to pick his brains and find out where to buy materials cheaply and borrow kit.

He has made quite a few mistakes including several badly soldered joints. All his mates have been taking the pee because of the lack of progress he has been getting it in the neck from the wife, the house is in various states of dismantlement and the job still isn’t finished.

I know all of this because the plumbsurgeon is me.

Sooooo next time you are on a DIY project remember what you said about others DIY’ing

ppe is for employees and the self employed

everyone else if unpaid for the work can do what the hell they like

Thats the law

Don't know how this applies to volunteers though- I guess the organisation using them have a duty of care so h&s laws must apply.

Does anyone on here use a chainsaw at home- for firewooding- without trousers/boots/head protection. I know I feel vulnerable without but sometimes lazy wins.

It was the lack of care taken on the tree and the use of spikes, I like to know about birds so I can plan my work around them so why don't bird experts take the same time to lean about the place where most birds nest. But as long as I know I do the best I can then what every one else does is up to them and this was meant as an observation not a rant.
