The point of shooting pheasants?

 

1) Clays taste pretty lousey, regardless of how you cook them.

 

2) Pheasants fly really really high (sometimes) which makes missing them much more entertaining.

 

3) A well trained and excited spaniel is not required for clays.

 

4) I find clay shooters far too 'clicky' (but then they look down on me as I am rubbish at clays anyway).

 

5) Don't like the outfits clay shooters wear....

Pheasant shooting at it's best is one of the finest sports in the world.

 

At it's worst it is barbaric and massively unsporting.

 

It's all down to how the birds are presented and the ethics of the people shooting (at!) them.

Family walked up day on my Uncles estate. Maybe 50 birds at most, absolutely love it. Small family days are brilliant, and the boxing day shoot is the highlight of my christmas. Age from 3-79 this year if everyone gets there. Big meal after, lots of port/sloegasms to boot.

 

Ill be shooting with my great grandfather's hammer 16 bore, its a 1875 Lang self cocking action and a joy to shoot. It will never leave the family

Ahhh.... I did'nt think, theres the added bonus of taking them home and having a good stew at the end of the day.

 

I also can't stand clicky people theres nothing worse!

 

I'll give pheasant shooting a bash when I get a license.

 

Thinking about it, when I was a nipper beating was great fun, trampling though brambles etc and 15 quid when your 11/12yrs was like winning the lottery.

 

I see how your list could go on and on not mention the jobs it creates/keeps.

Like I said before I whipped into a beagle pack and have beet on a shoot, allthough there are some kind thinking shooters who would not take a shot at an easy bird or one that would lead to a maimed bird there are many whose vision and thoughts are impaired by the amounts of drink they have consumed.

 

I have known game keepers to kill, shoot or poision protected birds of prey,

Dig out foxes and then let the terriers fight to the death,

Hounds shot straight out of the tralier as they didnt hunt well that particular day,

Badger digging do you think thats right? are you aware how much this goes on and atleast most hunts someone atleast is involved with this. The maimed terriers that are injured cant betaken to the vets for obviouse reasons so they are either shot or a number of people hold the terrier and its mouth closed and stitch it up with out anasthetic.

I have seen a very angrey kennel huntsman kick hounds so bad they have then gone down hill and aftera week die, drown them in the horse drinking trougth.

The list goes on.....

I am ashamed as to some of my actions that I did when hunting and now have nothing to do with hunting!

I thought there might be 2 opposing points of view to this.

as I'm some one who's in between this sounds like dark ages stuff to me and if any one gets pleasure out of seeing stuff or doing stuff like this to animals. that is f...ked up and they needs serious help.

 

Hearing stuff like that make me wonder if its true what townies say "country folk are a bunch of inbreds"

Fair play, we've all done something at some point that we've not been proud of.
