Not sure if this is the right forum, but I wondered if everyone may care to share their knowledge as regards the specific uses of different species of tree?

Here's some to get going:

Ash, tools handles. Yew, longbows. Elm, cart wheel hubs. Lime, piano sound boards. Willow, fibres for cord. Oak, tannins for leather. Beech, chopping boards, wooden spoons.

Ash for shooting brake frames, cart shafts; Box for rulers; Elm for seats, underwater pilings; Alder for gunpowder, clogs; Willow for salicylic acid (Aspirin); Hornbeam for gear wheel cogs; Yew for cancer treatment drugs; Maples for anything food orientated and maple syrup:001_tt2: Birch for wine....the list goes on.

cut maiden trees at neck height (always fun). Get enough for Irish geezers to be interested then they'll come in and cut them out the ground themselves!
