Firewood for next winter

Hi Guys,

Been thinking about starting supplying firewood for next winter once the snow is past :sneaky2: whenever that will be. Quite new to it appart from the logs i have cut for home use. I have access to quite a lot of Leyland Cypress and other softwood would this be okay? the Leyland burns alright at home but maybe i'm not too fussy :001_rolleyes:

What sort of price would you be looking at selling a bag for (say 520x850mm) probably a tricky question if its like most things its changing all the time

Any help would be appreciated, just a thought to see if its viable.

Cheers,

Jay

like hodge stated you need to get your hands on hardwood, the conifer when dry will just burn too quick and the customer will feel as if they did not get value for money.

you can use it but need to mix it in here and there.

i use various for myself and for customers oak, ash, beech, sycamore etc and mix in a small amount of conifer with each sell [no complaints]:thumbup1:

I mix a little conifer in with the rest too but I have customers that are happy to pay 2/3 normal price for pure conifer if that's all that I can supply. But I suggest making it very clear that they are getting much lighter wood than hardwood that will burn up a lot quicker. Most people are intelligent enough to live with their decisions when presented with the facts; ensure there are no surprises for them when they burn the stuff.

Good luck with it; with the right spiel you'll sell the lot.

Thanks for the response guys. Been having a look at the Log Storage thread and deciding what kind of setup to go for. Having access to a large amount of softwood it looks like i will offer two different products at appropriate prices when the time comes around, until then looks like i'll hav to sharpen the axe.

Cheers,

we sell tons and tons of poplar, willow and various conifiers, most not very well seasoned, no complaints... go figure. People dont just want hardwoods.

Exactly what we have found. I only sell softwood here in bags or bulk as long as the price is right and the customer knows exactly what there buying then no complaints here. I bought a bulk load of hardwood last year form a competitor down the road and honestly cant see much of a difference:confused1:

I've got loads of mates got into wood burning this year and none of them have got anything stored from last year so they are burning anything they can get their hands on most dont know the difference this will come with experience one of them was burning the councils old post and rail fencing from around his garden on an open fire.
