Tree surgery accident in Dorset involving MEWP

This happened today at 11. It wasnt too far away from where we were today but still it sounds like a really nasty one. Makes ya wonder how the MEWP fell over? Were they doing something a bit dodgy with it?

Hope things aren't as bad as they could be.

 

 

Not sure it's a good idea to hypothesise on what happened without the facts though.

Looks like a 19m basket similar to Dean's.

 

I have used those machines and it would appear that the boom is up and the top section well out.

 

Pure speculation, obviously, but if the operator has had the revs up high and inadvertantly dropped the top section sharpish with the boom extended, it gives them a hell of a rock.

 

That coupled with frozen ground and a slope...... ?

i have done some sub work for a company from dorchester [knighton countryside management]when they have work in south wales]

No idea who was doing the work. But i know Knighton very well as one of my m8s works for them and we have used them in the past for tree clearance on ancient monuments. The only thing i know from looking in the pic is they had a Timberwolf chipper.

yes,worked with cooper last year from sept 09 to march 2010

hedge laying and fencing.

julian was the foreman[used to be a dorset ranger] a bloody smashing guy to work with.

i think differ was down a few weeks ago,[coed darcy]a site not far from me,
