we almost always do storm damage at our hourly or day rates . we give the client estimated max cost allowing for setting up boarding etc + cutting down in tiny sections . i dont beleive in making a killing out of somebodys misfortune but its usually the clients poor planning or neglect of or damage to his trees that has caused the situation. i find it usually ends up costing less, customer is happy at not being fleeced= lots of referals + repeat jobs

What do your instincts tell you? if you dont feel confident jumping up it don't. gut feelings count for alot with this kinda work, in my opinion.

I'd anchor in to the connie near by, cut n chuck it down......or just straight through the back and see where it goes

yeah and it's not like I'm up against anyone else and under-cutting them loads, no one else is being asked.........unless I don't do it and then he'll have to pay the real price. At this moment in time whilst I'm still on the big learning curve I'd much rather be out working for and learning from someone else everyday than doing jobs by myself.

fair enough mate, we've all done a favour for someone & done them a blinding deal from time to time. just make sure he appreciates that you ARE doing him a VERY good deal at £150 & hope he reciprocates when it comes to your next accounts.

the main thing is whatever you do work safe & don't take any silly risks. treat it as a job worth a lot more & next time you have to quote for something you'll appreciate more what's involved.

Cheers for the idea but i have no scaffold to use. Know what I shall do tomorrow though, there's two long single metal ladders kicking around so I'm going to prop it up two thirds of the way along like a tripod and use the branches so they cant slip. also rope it off to the conny on the left just as a bit extra. Toss rope over, bounce on it to test and then just sneak up it cutting everthing off on way and chog on the way back down. Shouldn't take long once it's safe. Also put in £250 instead of £150 which was fine, so thanks for the extra money guys!
