4x4 Transit Tipper

Might be of interest to some of you Ford Transit tipper 4x4 on eBay (end time 15-Nov-10 17:56:04 GMT) although I have no idea what a banana engine is!?!

its because the inlet manifold looks like 4 bananas on the top of the engine.

 

running gear must be like hens teeth for them now. cool though

If they are similar to the county ones I.e ones made by Volkswagen in the 90s then this type of transit is like gold plated rocking horse poo!

People selling County Transits always set the price very high!

 

County Tractors of Knighton, Powys did the conversions, and some parts are now very difficult to get hold of - and bloody expensive too! Spares are now handled by a company called M J Allen.

 

The older model with a beam axle on the front tend to be more common on ebay and come up quite often - though usually vans rather than tippers. Many later ones with IFS instead of a solid axle have knackered 4WD due to being driven on hard surfaces with the 4WD engaged. There's no central diff on these so the system is for off road use only - it's like driving a Landy on the road with the diff lock engaged.

 

Grand old machines though - I have a MK5 and have had a couple of Mk3's which really are like a tractor in comparison! Never driven anything that has turned so many heads though!

Currently a skip lorry, but a lot of things going for it, including the stupidly low mileage, pto and crawler gear.

i have a 2002 old shape transit tipper (ex power co)its parked cos clutch knackered also weight issues (3500kg empty)long cab good turbo engine. would like to sell (as is ) to enthusiast or fellow tree worker .sorry no photos i am new to computers etc.
