usually i will do a half hitch then choke the log with the biner....or if theres a union to grip so it cant slip off just choke it around like the tip rope pic,on bigger bits of timber i prefer to try and balance the log with a sling then just cut send down and back for the next bit, quick and easy...have had a couple of nasty experiences years ago using half hitch timber hitches on big bits where both knots have failed to grip and have lost big bits of timber slipping out.........but maybe that could be due to the groundy letting the rope bite on full swing after letting it run!not that i told him to do that!

i find a sling quick and easy and havnt had one slip out yet....whys that mate have you spotted a weak link in my methods?

also and from my fingers and the log splitter incident,id rather just throw a sling around than fiddle tying up knots!

its a pain carrying a great big sling around a tree, only easy if it stays clipped on the lowering rope and pulled up to you!.

somtimes ill carry 2 small slings so i can rope off multiple branches in one hit, that works nice as you can use the weight of the first cut off branch to make hinges work better on the other 2.

Charlieh I think you need to take the top out of that tree to give it a better shape its not quite balanced right, and be carefull of overloading the limbs with those big balls, maybe reduce the weight on those too.
