We are supposed to use plastic barriers with two horizontal bars (the second, lower one is there so the white-stick will pick it up. As you can imagine its not always practical to carry a load of barriers round with us all day....its easier to stick one of the guys on ‘pedestrian duty’ - all about managing risk at the end of the day I suppose..

We had TM provided by the LA they set up the system, and their was one of them at each side to escort people past!!

thing is, what would you rather ..... ? Risk having a 'telling-off' from highways once in a while, or risk a member of the public being struck on the head. I know which one I'd prefer. Best thing is to be courteous to highways, inform them of the proposed works, they'll love you for it.

Beech removal from Monday and today, wanted it done in two days, but the weather yesterday slowed us some what. Had hoped to have all the top of on Monday, but as you can see from the first pic, still had some top this morning (no pic's yesterday too wet)

 

Any way really nice weather today every thing went well and we got back on schedule and got finished!!

Whats the height / reach on your crane M8? Looks very handy, I recon better than a timber crane type for tree surgery.

Hi Tom, It has 14M reach to the side and 58ft straight up!

Interesting pedestrian management there, is the coned passageway for the pedestrians or a safety zone for your guys? Over here I just tape off the pavement together with a pavement-closed sign (no arrow directing them in any direction) Its up to them then, and no liability on me!

yeah its a false footpath,we normally block of the footpath with signs/cones/barriers but this was a main/busy road we couldnt do that,icould only cut when the groundy gave me the thumbs up,
