Too right tim, but i would like to add to what you say, that doing as pete says, in a risky situation putting your flip line to the D will save you getting squashed to the stem, BUT in this case you should definately not bypass your soft link. That is your means of rescue, and obviously its already known this would be an action taken in tricky situation.

Not lecturing vduben, just trying to refresh a few minds as to why the soft link is put in the lanyard.:151:

well i wouldnt of bypassed the soft link, i was just asking for opinions, like you said its the means of escape..........

I have dumped my microcender and gone back to the VT on the wire core. I hated the extra link in the system, too much play

For a while I had a little webbing loop, about 4" i'd larks foot this directly to the side D and clip into this, it has a little less play than 2 biners and a soft link.

Once you clip into the loop your not taking the flipline of until the climbs finished anyway.

Like Pete I now use a small 3/2 VT in 8mm cord (smaller cord seems to grip better) which is only 4-5" from biner to top wrap, so nice and compact.

i used a 15cm sling on microsender and have just swapped to a swivel positioner which can be released under load so am thinking of not having a soft link although soft link not a prob other than needs loler checks every 3 months which is a pain in the but

Those postioners are great, don't have one myself, but have used one on a soft rope.

I think i'm right in saying they do not work great with stiff wire core lines though, as they work by angling the line somehow instead of grabing/clamping action?

Are you having problems with that Bob?
