First Rope Advice

So Im looking to buy my first set of ropes, and really, I am clueless. I passed my 38 on a New England Tachyon, it seemed fine, did the job, but it is the only rope I have tried and there are so many to choose from that I dont really know where to start. Price is a contributing factor, but I definately dont want junk.

I think one of the best all round ropes for durability and ease of use has to be Yale XTC or Samson arbormaster. There are many variations of these in terms of colours etc. but they are all the same.

 

Other than that there is cheapo stuff like Marlow, and then more specialist stuff like tachyon, blaze and poison Ivy, but these really only come in to there own league when used in large trees, so not much of an improvement if you ony need 37m or so.

A good rope to start with would be a 16 strand. Very simple ropes. Work well with a blakes hitch. And will accept other hitches. I use a Knut on mine and it works well

I have always used The new england Ultra Vee and high Vee nice ropes The only let down Is they our very stretchy when fully out You can bounce up and down

iam a big fan of the tachyon that you used on the course, its very light and has low stretch. id also definitly pay a bit more and get a spliced eye on the end too.

just stick with what you know!!

 

you could take years finding ropes that work and will inevitably find duff ones! just play it safe and ask/borrow different ones for a quick jolly. get yourself to a recreation day (or organise your own!)
