I've had two pairs of sealskinz to use in my moto x boots. Maybe I'm just unlucky but the ain't worked yet!

That's very strange Graham, as all Sealskinz products are guaranteed to be 100% waterproof. If the water is getting in over the top of the socks, that could cause a problemo. Might be an idea to take them back to the shop and get them to send them back to Sealskinz for testing. :001_smile:

I've been told that they shouldn't be washed ie by machine as it ruins the membrane. Maybe that's where I went wrong. Also bought from a bike show so no shop to go through.

they can happily be washed in a machine in a cycle up to 40 degrees or by hand - I guess if you 'boiled' them in the machine then they'll be goosed

No point in socks, or boots today seen as I now have developed a mild case of trench foot. Been a bit of a 'damp' day!

The best ones by far are the ex army green wool socks. £1/pair from market, some pairs have lasted me about 4 year! Sometimes double them up with old knackered thin socks in winter if it's cold, but I'm usually working too hard too notice that!!

what are your motox boots made from? are they leather or plastic,

It could actually be sweat NOT water,,, it's all very well having breathable socks but if the boots dont allow the travel of moisture then you might as well be wearing a plastic bag..

re washing,, for goretex, as Yve quite rightly says, upto 40' should be no problem,, DONT use detergent,, Lux flakes are the best..

actually there are a few types of superfeet, thin ones for the heel wearers, to stiffer ones for the heavy footed,

re moulded orthotics, it depends what your needs are and how good/ bad your feet are,,, i spend most of my life bare foot,, i have very strong feet, never use footbeds,

BUT lucy has appalling feet, her arches are collapsed and her feet are wrecked, this is from years of clamping snowboard bindings down squashing her feet, so footbeds force her feet back into shape giving her an arch back, the arch is effectively the suspension, without it there's no suspension..

so, back to moulded,, they cost alot more and some love em some hate em, they MUST be fitted by someone who knows what they are doing,, snow and rock are at the forefront of this in action sports, but you can get em from your doc etc etc

to be honest,, first thing is to try superfeet, they cost £30 and you can trim them yourself, the big difference is that they are not moulded all the way round your feet, the shape of the heel cup is designed so that a small bone ion the inside of your heel is supported, this forces your arch into shape. this allows your foot to do what it is supposed to,, a moulded one will be totally moulded to the shape of your foot and as such it is down to the flex in the footbed to allow your foot to move as it should,

they're not for everyone,,, IanH feel free to correct any mistakes, it's been a couple of years since i was involved with this,

:congrats: Nothing to correct ady absolutely spot on mate:thumbup1:
