a week or two back i was asked to go and quote for a syc reduction/massacre at a house in the middle of newquay, it was a 25-30ft single stem syc with a large crown..

it is also roadside, in a conservation area, half the tree overhangs the road in a busy bit of town..

it was a bit of a mates rates deal and i said i'd do it for £300, including taking away all chip, groundie etc etc.

anyway,, just did a fiollow up call to see if she wanted to proceed..

her exact words " i had a quote of a guy last night to do it for £140, if you can do the job for that it's yours":confused1::confused1:

i am still not able to understand how someone could do the job for that amount....

i'd taken into account:

climber

groundie

chipper

fuel

planning lark

insurance

removal of arisings

1 days work set aside for job and coning off the night before as it's a popular parking spot..

My advice to you would be, forget the job even existed ''walk away'' and let however wants the job to get on with it, at the moment my old mate, all you're doing is what many before you have done, and thats beat yourself up over a cheap cowboy, life's far far too short for that! and you won't change things anyway...

Part of the problem is people thinking they're tree surgeons. We priced a job last year for pollard a crack willow, we put around £1400 on it, the customer had got a price of £700 from as he put it 'a builder and his mate who had a chainsaw and could do the job'

after pointing out he should dial the first two 9's if he let them up the tree we got the job.

What did she say mate?

the other guy she had in to quote was to only do half the work, leave all arisings on site, and basicly do half of what i quoted for,,

told her that if that was all she wanted doing then i'd be happy to come in for 2 hours and do the same, seems she's not so good with the math..:confused1:
